About

Atelier Lofoten – A Place for Encounters and Creativity

In May 2026, I opened  Atelier Edith Arntzen in Ballstad. It is a spacious 140-square-meter studio with a terrace and views of the ocean and the mountains. Atelier is not only my studio, but also a living residency space. Here, the past meets the present, and light becomes a universal language beyond time.

About me

My name is Edith Arntzen.
I am a painter, ceramic artist, and visual artist who has been creating in the heart of Norway’s Lofoten Islands for over twenty years, in the picturesque village of Ballstad. Although I formally completed Art Education with a specialization in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, my relationship with art reaches much deeper, beyond the boundaries of a single biography.

Painting I Have Carried Within Me for Centuries

As long as I can remember, I have had the remarkable feeling that I have been painting for centuries. It is a state in which you pick up a brush and simply know what to do — without hesitation, as if the skill had been written into me long before I ever began to learn it. For years, it was difficult for me to put this feeling into words. Only after reading The Journey of Souls did I find a way to name this intuitive sense: I had simply been painting long ago, I am painting now, and only the passing time changes. My paintings are a continuation of that eternal journey.

In my work, I focus on capturing the unique northern light, the vastness of space, and the deep emotions that arise at the meeting point of wild nature and inner memory. The artistic DNA of my work is defined by the interplay of white and deep blue, the colors of the ocean — pure, cool, and yet full of expression — which dominate my compositions.
